Route
Plane
When you arrive at Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam) you will have to travel further to Utrecht. You can travel to Utrecht quickly by train (Trains leave right from Schiphol Airport; see "Trains" section), by taxi - which is expensive - or you can rent a car (see the "Car" section for travel directions). Taxi
There are various taxi companies that travel to and from Schiphol Airport. Note that taxis are expensive in Holland. If you (or we) have booked a taxi to transport you to Utrecht after you have arrived at the airport please go to the Schiphol Transfer Assistance desk (STA, located at Schiphol Plaza, open 24 hours). An assistant of the STA will bring you to your taxi. Shuttle-service from Utrecht to Schiphol:
UTC (Utrecht Taxi Centrale): 030-2300400 (www.utc.nl). They will transfer from Schiphol to Utrecht for fixed rates, if booked and paid well in advance. UTC also offers fixed maximum rates for rides within Utrecht.
Car rental
Their are several companies at Schiphol Airport where you can rent a car. The companies Hertz, Avis, Budget, Europcar, National and Sixt all have service desks at Schiphol Plaza (right behind the arrival hall)
Train
There are direct trains to Utrecht CS. Several trains run also during the night. From Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Hilversum, Arnhem: direct. From Brussels: change at Rotterdam. From Groningen: direct, or change at Amersfoort. Once in Utrecht you will need an additional bus card or ticket (see below under 'Local transport') to get to De Uithof (the university campus). Local Transport
There is a direct bus shuttle from Utrecht CS to the university campus De Uithof (direct bus 12, as well as bus 28). Ask the bus driver to stop at the Kruyt building, Padualaan 8. Bus tickets can be bought from the bus driver. If you will travel more often by bus, better buy an 'OV chip card', valid everywhere in the Netherlands, which can be bought at Utrecht central station or other railway stations. Car
The university campus De Uithof is located South East of Utrecht.
From highway A2 (Amsterdam - Utrecht - Eindhoven) take highway A12 (direction Arnhem, East) at crossing Oudenrijn. Continue at 3.
From highway A27 (Breda-Utrecht-Hilversum) take highway A28 (to Amersfoort, East) at crossing Rijnsweerd. Take directly exit De Uithof/Zeist/De Bilt.
From highway A12 (Den Haag - Utrecht - Arnhem) take highway A27 (to Amersfoort/Hilversum, North) at crossing Lunetten.Stay on the right lanes , into direction highway A28 (to Amersfoort, East) at crossing Rijnsweerd. Take exit De Uithof/Zeist/De Bilt.
From Amersfoort (highway A28) take exit De Uithof/De Bilt.
From the exit go left (De Uithof) on the Universiteitsweg and go right at the 2nd road (Leuvenlaan), just after the info(i)-board. The huge building to the left at the end of the road is the Hugo R. Kruyt building just after passing the blue-grey two-floor Nicolaas Bloembergen building, which houses the NMR department. Almost at the end of the road (opposit the Minnaert building with the red carpet walls) there is a parking next to the Kruyt building. Next to our building there may be also a few parking places.
At The Uithof
The entrance of the Nicolaas Bloembergen building can only be accessed via the Hugo R. Kruyt building (a huge concrete building at the university complex De Uithof, 8 floors high, grey and with a yellow elevator house on top). Its address : Padualaan 8. The entrance of the Kruyt building is on the South-West side. Take the elevator or stairs to the 1st floor and follow direction East (Oost). Pass the footbridge that connects the two buildings. The entrance to the NMR building is at the end on the left. You have to ask for entrance in the NMR building by calling the secretary or someone else (telephone and telephone list are next to the door).
