Academic staff

Get to know a selection of the members of the academic staff of Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences.

Prof. dr. A.S. (Anna) Akhmanova

Anna Akhmanova is professor of Cell Biology at Utrecht University. Akhmanova studies cytoskeletal organization and trafficking processes, which contribute to cell polarization, differentiation, vertebrate development and human disease. She is an expert on microtubule dynamics and microtubule-based membrane trafficking. Akhmanova is a recipient of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research Spinoza Prize, an elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

Dr. D.A. (Daan) Weits

Daan Weits is assistant professor in Plant-Environment signaling at Utrecht University. He is fascinated by how plants develop and interact with their environment, and currently leads a Vidi funded project on this topic. Apart from teaching in a level 3 Bachelor course in this field, he is coordinator of the Genes to Organisms track of MCLS.

Dr. H. (Hugo) van Ingen

Hugo van Ingen is assistant professor and group leader at the Utrecht NMR Group. In his research he uses nuclear magnetism to study protein function with a specific interest in epigenetics and chromatin. This recently led to the discovery of a novel mechanism by which chromatin can be assembled.
