Extra opportunities

For students looking for an extra challenge in addition to their Master's, there are several options.

Eurocampus

Each year, five students from Utrecht can take part in the European Master’s Programme in Intercultural Communication (EMICC), which is also referred to as Eurocampus. This programme started in 2002 and is organised together with partner universities from Germany, Estonia, France, Finland, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland.

During this four-month intensive programme (30 EC) conducted in English, you will take classes taught by international experts and establish an international network. Your fellow students will be the partner universities, forming a diverse, intercultural and multilingual group. You will take 15 one-week courses on a range of themes including English as lingua franca, human rights, globalisation, European unification and cultural anthropology to name a few.

Students who are interested in participating in the Eurocampus must indicate their interest in their application. To this end, your expression of interest must include a clear motivation for participating in the Eurocampus. Eurocampus students are integrated within the Multilingual track. The 30 EC earned from the Eurocampus replaces the coursework completed at Utrecht University.

Masterlanguage

If you choose to specialise in a specific language during your Master’s programme, Masterlanguage can provide an interesting addition to your studies. Masterlanguage is a national course catalogue focused on German, English, French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch, as well as the classical languages (Greek and Latin). The courses are in the relevant target language (except Greek and Latin) and will be taught by (assistant-) professors from:

  • University of Groningen
  • Radboud University Nijmegen
  • Leiden University
  • Utrecht University
  • University of Amsterdam
  • VU University Amsterdam

You can take these courses on top of courses in the programme or after consultation with the Programme Coordinator. Course information, admission requirements and registration information can be found on the Masterlanguage website.

Along with the regular course catalogue, Masterlanguage offers lectures and masterclasses. This allows you to meet teachers with different expertise and language students from all over the Netherlands.
