''The research groups have people of various disciplines and diverse backgrounds, which inspires and really gives the feeling of being in it together.''

I started out with my Bachelor’s in Earth Sciences not knowing which of all the potential pathways to take. I tried several, and ended up completely captivated by paleoclimatology and paleoceanography. Thus, the choice for Earth, Life and Climate was innate.

It is clear that climate change poses a threat to the global society. By studying the past climate, we hope to learn what the future might bring. It is exciting to be able to contribute in improving this understanding directly using the awesome laboratories and instruments that our faculty offers. Besides this, the research groups have people of various disciplines and diverse backgrounds, which inspires and really gives the feeling of being in it together. Herein also lies the beauty of Earth Sciences: one can delve deep into a narrow specialism, and extrapolate the findings for the bigger, millions-of-years-old picture that is relevant for Earth Sciences in its entirety.

''My goal is to do science, and be involved in places where people work, think and discuss new solutions for environmental problems we face.''

I'm from Spain, where I did a Bachelor’s in Marine Sciences. By learning different disciplines, I realized the need to understand the climate system's response to anthropogenic impacts and the ocean's role in it. For this reason, I've enrolled on the Master’s programme Earth, Life and Climate to understand the climate feedback deeply.

During the first year, I'm learning how the climate has acted in the past and how we can react to future changes. I like that it gives you the independence to create your own path, depending on your interests and abilities. Also, it offers you an interdisciplinary understanding of the Earth Sciences which is helpful to have a clear point of view to face the challenges of the research career. My goal is to do science, and be involved in places where people work, think and discuss new solutions for environmental problems we face.

''Learning about the history of the Earth and the changes that have influenced the climate and life on our planet, has given me both a more focused and broader view on the system Earth.''

The Master’s programme Earth, Life and Climate has stimulated my interest in palaeontology. Learning about the history of the Earth and the changes that have influenced the climate and life on our planet, has given me both a more focused and broader view on the system Earth. Teachers are always willing to help you or give you advice on career choices, and provide different projects coordinated by them to work on.
