Internships
Internship co-ordinator: S.S.Arndt, PhD, phone 030-2537694
At the Department of Animals in Science and Society we constantly offer possibilities to do an internship. All internships are related to ongoing research projects of the department. Thus, an internship can benefit both, the intern and us. Our research is mainly embedded in the faculty focus program “Emotion & Cognition” and, thus, directed on the perception and effects of emotional processes in animals and, ultimately, the animals’ welfare. Further, we are interested in aspects of the human-animal relationship. Next to societal aspects we evaluate ethical (in cooperation with the Ethics Institute) and regulatory (in cooperation with the Utrecht Law School) aspects of keeping and using animals. Within our research, we strongly focus on the 3R’s, i.e. replacement, refinement and reduction of animal experiments.
Interns are guided by a mentor and are treated as colleagues. That also includes that they will participate in all internal meetings in order to get a realistic insight into our field of work. Interns will generally be involved in the whole process of planning and executing experiments and reporting of results. Training on the necessary techniques is self-evident to us. We are happy to share our “passion for the profession” with highly motivated, curious and responsible people.
