Research

Research plays a fundamental role in all of Utrecht University’s degree programmes. Course content is closely linked to top-class research. As a student, you’ll be taught in small groups by top researchers and lecturers, usually experts in their field. The university is at the forefront of developments in interdisciplinary knowledge, and our research has a defining impact in fields ranging from biochemistry and biophysics to human rights and culture.

At Utrecht University, you’ll be part of one of Europe’s leading research institutions. Utrecht University has a long research tradition spanning a wide range of academic disciplines and characterised by active cross-pollination between them. In addition, as part of its programme of ‘research focus areas’, Utrecht University has identified 15 specific areas in which its research excels, all represented by multidisciplinary clusters of top-class research groups. Research networks

Our university liaises with other higher education institutions and research centres around the world and works closely with business and industry, government authorities, interest groups and other organisations in a range of research schools, institutes and alliances.
