Dr Solène Guggisberg is a Senior Research Associate at Utrecht University, where she is based at the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS) and the Utrecht Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law (UCWOSL). She rejoined Utrecht University in March 2021 to work on Antarctic tourism as part of an NWO project funded by the Netherlands Polar Programme. She has previously undertaken postdoctoral research on international fisheries law, worked for international governmental and nongovernmental organizations involved in fisheries and maritime affairs as well as international courts and tribunals.

Solène was educated at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, the University of Edinburgh, and the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg where she completed her Ph.D on the use of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species for fisheries. She is currently undertaking research on Antarctic tourism and the role of non-user States in regulating this activity.
