Martin has an interdisciplinary academic background in international development studies, political ecology and urban planning from McGill University, the University of Melbourne, and University College London. He has over seven years of experience as a sustainability practitioner working on several projects in Africa, Europe, Oceania and North and South America. His current research focuses on circular economy, environmental governance, post-development, and degrowth. His publications are openly available here.

Martin is currently a PhD candidate on the discourse, theory and practice of the Circular Economy at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University. His PhD is part of the CRESTING project funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No 765198: http://cresting.hull.ac.uk/
His first supervisor is Walter Vermeulen and his co-supervisor is Roberta Salomone.
