Profile

Dr. Sterre Leufkens is assistant professor in Dutch linguistics at the department of Languages, Literature and Culture and the department of Dutch Language and Culture. She is affiliated with the research institute UiL-OTS and the research group Language Structure: Variation and Change.

She currently works on the research project 'Moedertaal in NT2', developing an app that aims to help teachers of Dutch as a second language to address L1-dependent acquisition problems. In the past, she participated in the NWO-funded research project The Syntax of Idioms. She obtained her PhD degree at the University of Amsterdam, with a dissertation comparing 22 languages on their degree of transparency. Alongside these research projects, she taught courses on theoretical linguistics (both functional and generative frameworks), general linguistics, and (Dutch) syntax.

Sterre Leufkens is co-author of a popular-scientific blog on language and linguistics, De Taalpassie van Milfje. She also publishes articles and books for a broad audience.
