I work on advancing the understanding of large-scale underground hydrogen storage in porous geological formations, with a focus on depleted offshore and nearby onshore gas fields in the Netherlands. As green hydrogen becomes increasingly important in future energy systems, my research aims to support the identification of safe and suitable storage sites.

My work combines subsurface flow dynamics, geochemical interactions, and geomechanical behaviour to study how hydrogen moves, reacts, and affects the integrity of the reservoir and caprock. I am particularly interested in how these coupled processes respond to repeated hydrogen injection and production cycles, and what this means for long-term containment and operational safety.

Through this interdisciplinary approach, I hope to contribute to developing practical insights and strategies that can support the deployment of secure and efficient hydrogen storage at scale.
