Profile

Xin Li is currently a PhD student in Utrecht Institute of Linguistics OTS. She works with Prof. René Kager on a cross-linguistic study on the perception of sandhied tones, aiming at finding out the effects of a) phonological nativeness and b) assimilatory/dissimilatory nature of sandhi rule, on the perception of sandhied tones. Perception of sandhied tones in the Nanjing dialect (a representative branch of Jianghuai Mandarin in Chinese dialects) and an artificial tone language in relation to these two factors by a Nanjing group, a Beijing group and a Dutch group are investigated in this project.
