Wietse de Jonge is a PhD researcher at the department of History and Art History. He finished his master degrees in European Studies at the University of Amsterdam, and Heritage- and Postcolonial Studies at the University of Leiden. 
He is currently working on a PhD-project in the fields of colonial and environmental history. Attached to the Political History section, his research examens the role of the environment and local communities in the making of the Kultuurstelsel (or Cultivation System) in the 19th century Dutch East Indies.
