Wietse de Jonge is a PhD researcher at the department of History and Art History. He finished his master degrees in European Studies at the University of Amsterdam, and Heritage- and Postcolonial Studies at the University of Leiden. 
He is currently working on a PhD-project in the fields of colonial and environmental history. Working at the Political History section, his research examines resilient indigenous communities and ecological constraints during the exploitative Cultivation System implemented in colonial Indonesia (1830-1870) .
