Wieger Bakker is full professor at the Utrecht University School of Governance for the faculty of Law, Economics and Governance (LEG). He holds a chair in Society Oriented Higher Education. From 2017 until 2023 he was chairing the board of the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning of Utrecht University (see https://www.uu.nl/onderwijs/centre-for-academic-teaching-and-learning). Earlier he was director of studies of the Utrecht School of Governance bachelor program and coordinator of a double degree master program European governance.
Since December 2018 he is dean Lifelong Learning for Utrecht University. In this position he works with a dedicated team on developing university continuing education (UCE). The ambition of this program is to facilitate and stimulate UCE-activities in which research and expertise relate to societal and professional needs (see https://professionals.uu.nl/ and see https://intranet.uu.nl/onderwijs-voor-professionals). 

In 2020 he was, next to his work at Utrecht University, appointed extraordinary Professor Governance, Community and Cohesion at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the University of Aruba (www.ua.aw). In 2022 he was elected for a second term as deputy director general of the Inter University Centre Dubrovnik, Croatia (www.iuc.hr).
