Wirawan Ciptonugroho earned bachelor of chemical engineering in 2007 from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh-Nopember (Indonesia). Afterwards, his M.Sc. in chemical engineering was obtained from National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan) in 2009. For his master thesis he performed research on the synthesis and surface modification of silicon nanowires as well as its application in photoelectrochemical cells in the group of Prof. Dr. Dong-Hwang Chen. Having earned his M.Sc., he was assigned as a junior lecturer at the chemical engineering department of Sebelas Maret University (Indonesia) in 2009 and working in the group of advanced materials led by Dr. Eng. Agus Purwanto. Starting in 2012 he did his PhD in the group of Prof. Dr. Regina Palkovits at RWTH Aachen (Germany) carrying out research on the synthesis of modified ZrO2 catalyst and its application in the production of biobased esters, alkyl levulinate. In 2016 he joined the group of Prof. Dr. Arno Behr/Prof. Dr. Dieter Vogt at TU Dortmund (Germany) as a postdoctoral fellow doing research on catalytic terpene conversion to fine chemicals. Since December 2017, he has been a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Dr. Pieter Bruijnincx and Prof. Dr. Bert Weckhuysen in Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis at Utrecht University conducting research on biphasic acid-base catalysis facilitated by Pickering emulsion.
