2023 - Assistant Professor in Environmental Hydrogeology. With the focus on understanding transport phenomena and subsequent interactions in the subsurface to enable a sustainable subsurface usage.

2018 - Specialist Consultant in Hydrogeology. Thomas worked on research & development within hydrogeology and as a consultant on projects in environmental hydrogeology on topics such as subsurface energy, geotechnical and environmental engineering.

2018 - 2023 Adjunct researcher in Hydrogeology at Utrecht University. Setting up research in hydrogeological and coupled processes, with aspects of geomechanics and geochemistry.

2017-2018 Postdoc at Utrecht University. Continuation of my Ph.D. study and a study on the effect of aquifer properties on aquifer thermal energy storage systems.

Education

2013-2017 Ph.D. at Utrecht University, Entitled: “A grain-scale study of unsaturated flow in highly swelling granular materials”. This interdisciplinary work combined physics of swelling gels, mechanical (grain-scale) aspects of swelling particle beds and unsaturated flow. The research was predominantly numerical modelling, but also included experimental work for validation purposes. This work was conducted in collaboration with the University of Grenoble, University of Eindhoven, University of Limerick and industrial partners.

2011-2013 M.Sc. Environmental Hydrogeology/Geochemistry at Utrecht University

2008-2011 B.Sc. Earth Sciences, Utrecht University
