Thomas Riesthuis is Assistant professor in legal theory at the Institute of Constitutional, Administrative Law and Legal Theory. In his research, he explores the philosophical foundations of law in European multi-level legal systems. He also has an interest in legal pluralism, (methodology of) jurisprudence and the rule of law. Thomas Riesthuis teaches courses in foundations of law, jurisprudence and legal philosophy. He is also the faculty contact person for research integrity at the LEG faculty. Students and employees from the LEG faculty can contact him to discuss, on a confidential basis, questions or dilemma's concerning research integrity.

Thomas holds an LLM and PhD in law and an MA in philosophy of science from Erasmus University Rotterdam. His PhD thesis (The Intertwinement of Legal Orders : a Critical Reconstruction of Theories of Jurisprudence) is available online here. He has held visiting fellowships at Queen Mary University of London and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg.
