My research focuses on landscape reconstruction using palaeoenvironmental and bioarchaeological proxies. The goal of my NWO Applied project Looking back to plan ahead: unfolding the natural heritage of Dutch landscapes is to create a spatiotemporal reconstruction of the development of the Dutch landscape over the past 15.000 years (see Research for the full project description). In collaboration with the Geological Survey of the Netherlands (TNO), the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE), bioarchaeological consultancy agencies (BIAX consult & ADC Archeoprojecten) and the Forestry Agency (Staatsbosbeheer) I collate and analyze palynological and geochronological datasets in the Netherlands. I'm interested in the interaction between plants, their abiotic environment, climate and anthropogenic pressure and how these relationships developed over time during the Lateglacial and the Holocene.
