Tobias Agterhuis MSc (1995) is a PhD candidate in the research group Stratigraphy & Paleontology. His research is funded by the Netherlands Earth System Science Centre (NESSC) and focusses on reconstructing sea surface temperatures over the globe during the early Eocene, the warmest period of the past 85 Myrs. Measuring the stable and clumped isotopic composition of well-preserved planktonic foraminifera is the tool that will be applied in this project. The temperature reconstructions will enable him to address fundamental questions regarding climate sensitivity and polar amplification during greenhouse periods.
