These research institutes provide access to 36 state-of-the-art microscopic facilities for excellent research. In addition to access and expertise, EXCITE also develops training and tools to enable research that contributes to solving societal issues. The EXCITE2 project is funded by Horizon Europe.
2023 – 2024 Faculty Impact Coordinator

The Faculty of Geosciences has the ambition to be a global trailblazer in education and research with regard to our Earth system and sustainability.
Main activities:
• Coordinate and lead the Faculty Impact Working Group (FIWG), where the faculty and departmental Impact Coordinators work together to establish an impact framework.
• Lead and manage projects to support (scientific) staff to maximise their impact.
• Map how impact is achieved and organised in other institutes and businesses.
Key achievements:
• Initiation and implementation of the first impact monitoring framework.
• Guidance on bottom-up co-creation process with faculty and departments.
• Co-creation of the impact organisational structure together with faculty and departments.
2019 – present Project Leader Outreach sustainable innovation projects
Utrecht Sustainability Institute
The Utrecht Sustainability Institute (USI) develops and leads projects on various sustainable innovations. USI prides itself on sharing knowledge to create common ground.
Main activities:
• Coordinate (strategic) communication with partners across multiple European projects
• Supervise the Communication team (one communication professional)
• Initiate, coordinate and write articles, press releases, promotional movies, news items
• Develop new communication tools and deliverables (e.g. infographics, banners)
• Organize promotional events and national debates (Circular Economy Labs)
• Conduct qualitative research to explore opportunities in the field
• Build (including content) and maintain websites

GenDx
GenDx provides reagents and software for sequencing-based HLA typing for stem cell
transplantation. The Education program stimulates the sharing of knowledge and ideas between HLA professionals to advance the field.
Main activities:
• Organized and hosted (international) training events at conferences and customer sites
• Initiated, coordinated and hosted monthly webinars with (international) guest speakers and Key Opinion Leaders
• Initiated, written and edited educational scientific texts together with experts
• Provided customers with data analysis support and product demonstrations
Key achievements:
• Professionalized and popularized the Education program (courses and webinars)
• Initiated and developed the HLA typing training booklet, used in labs all over the world
• Developed new education tools, such as webinars and practice-based training

The research was focused on the application of recombinant insect odorant receptors as biosensors using a fluorescent reporter.
