I am a PhD candidate in Gender and Postcolonial Studies at Utrecht University and research assistant for the Horizon 2020 ITN GRACE (gender and cultures of equality in Europe) project. I studied Arabic Languange, cultures and markets at the University of Bologna (Italy) and I received my MA degree in Women's and gender studies from The American University in Cairo (Egypt). I was Erasmus Mundus scholar at Damascus University (Syria), Erasmus scholar at The University of Manchester (UK) and visiting scholar at Jawaharlal Nehru University (India). My current research focuses on the memory of 2011 civil uprising and war in Syria and how activists and artists mobilize memories in the present(s) to create a space for critical imagining of sovereignty, citizenship, and rights in the European context.
