Stefan Sudhoff is assistant professor in German linguistics.
His research deals with the question of how the function of a sentence embedded in a coherent discourse is reflected by the grammatical form of this sentence. Depending on the linguistic and non-linguistic context, sentences vary, for instance, in their word order or intonation. This phenomenon, which is called information structure, is approached by both theoretical work and empirical methods (corpus studies and speech production/perception experiments).
In 2008, Stefan Sudhoff obtained a doctorate in general linguistics. His dissertation deals with so-called focus particles (words like ‘only’, ‘also’ and ‘even’) in German.
