Sjang is a teacher and course coordinator in the core curriculum of the Liberal Arts and Sciences bachelor. Here, he trains students in various aspects of interdisciplinary thinking, writing, and research.

He also supervises theses in Utrecht University's History and Philosophy of Science research master's program. Recent and ongoing supervised thesis projects cover topics such as the dynamics of interdisciplinary collaboration, the adoption of quantitative methods in the historical discipline, and the commemmoration of Dutch Nobel prize winners.
