Sjors Martens (1991) is PhD Candidate at Utrecht University at both the department of Media and Culture Studies and Computer Science. In his research he looks at the problems plaguing the use of urban game tools in conjuring a playful city. Recently he graduated from Media and Performance studies (cum laude) at Utrecht University after graduating from Television, Film and Theatre studies at Utrecht University (cum laude). During his research masters he studied game design at the IT University in Copenhagen. His main research interests lie with the formation of transmedial and fictional worlds, a phenomenon spanning multiple media with links to concepts such as narrative, transmedia and modularity. These worlds are usually researched from the perspective of videogames, cities or theme parks. His PhD project is an abstraction from this, looking at the use of playful technologies in conjuring targeted city models that enhance citizen engagement.
