In the roles as a veterinarian and educationalist I have over 25 years of experience training veterinarians in the workplace. As program director of the Master of Medicine of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University (2011-2017), I shaped and implemented an educational program centered on workplace learning and assessment. Since 2017, I continue this role in the veterinary field as the Program Director of the IVC Evidensia Academy (2017 - 2024), founder and moderator of VetEntrusted (2020 - present) and Director of Education for Professionals (2024 - present). My expertise involves building educational programs in which programmatic assessment and entrustable professional activities (EPAs) are the two key pillars. Programmatic assessment is an approach to provide formative support for a learner's development of knowledge, skills and competencies. This longitudinal formative support gradually transitions to a robust holistic summative assessment. EPAs bring task clarity; they are about the clearly defined tasks to be performed that can be entrusted to a learner to perform without supervision.
