Ronette Gehring graduated as a veterinarian in 1996 from the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Onderstepoort, and was awarded the MMedVet specialist degree in Veterinary Pharmacology from the University of Pretoria in 2000. She is a Diplomate of both the American College of Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology and the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Ronette has worked as a veterinarian in private practice, both in South Africa and the United Kingdom. She has held academic positions at the University of Pretoria (1999-2001; Lecturer), North Carolina State University (2001-2006; Research Assistant Professor), and Kansas State University (2006 - 2017; Assistant and Associate Professor).

While at Kansas State University, Ronette served as the regional director (Mid-West) of the Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank.

Ronette joined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University in October 2017. She has authored and co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, several book chapters and is a regular speaker and presenter at scientific and professional meetings.
