Geoscience Intelligence for Hydrogen and Earth Systems
Reza Derakhshani works at the interface of geoscience, artificial intelligence, and the energy transition, with a focus on underground hydrogen storage, geoscience AI, tectonics, and mineral resources. His research combines geological insight with quantitative and machine-learning methods to address challenges in subsurface energy storage, resource development, and Earth-system sustainability.
A central theme is hydrogen geoscience, the safe, geologically sound development of subsurface storage. By integrating structural geology and geomechanics with explainable AI, he examines storage performance, reservoir and seal integrity, and subsurface risk.
This approach extends more broadly to mineral resources, groundwater systems, and geohazards, supporting sustainable energy and resource development.
