The Re/Presenting Europe consortium works to combat prejudiced representations of the diverse communities that shape the Netherlands and Europe. Many representations of Europe and Europeanness have not acknowledged the long presence of super diverse communities here. Our consortium shows how this has led to racism, stereotypes, exclusion and misrepresentation.
We generate more accurate representations and build redress or healing into our analysis and impact. We focus on the domains of education, sports, and urban arts and hip hop, as these are major sites of (mis)representation. Across the project as a whole we take seriously the impact of colonialism and slavery on contemporary society, and we research and practice solidarity across our differences.
