Curriculum vitae

Paul de Bijl is (part-time) senior lecturer Competition & Regulation at U.S.E. (Utrecht University School of Economics), and independent consultant in the economics of competition, regulation and public policy, as owner/principal of Radicand Economics. In addition to his consulting work, he gives executive courses on strategy in regulated markets and economic policy, for instance at the National Academy for Finance and Economics.

Paul is also an associate of Kwink Groep, extramural fellow of TILEC (Tilburg Law and Economics Center), Tilburg University, and (pro bono) non-governmental advisor of ACM (the Dutch competition authority). Before that, Paul was (among other) head of the department Competition and Regulation at the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, research coordinator of TILEC, and policy advisor at the directorate AFEP of the Ministry of Finance. During 2013-2015, he was (part-time) visiting professor of Regulatory Economics at the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management (Vallendar, Germany).

Paul obtained a PhD in Economics at Tilburg University, supervised by Helmut Bester and Eric van Damme. Part of his PhD research was carried out at the Université de Toulouse I, under the supervision of Nobel Prize laureate Jean Tirole.

With Martin Peitz, Paul wrote the book Regulation and Entry into Telecommunications Markets (Cambridge University Press, 2002; Chinese translation 2006). Paul has published in various academic journals, including Telecommunications Policy, Journal of Information Policy, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Regulatory Economics and Information Economics and Policy. He is a member of the International Editorial Board of DigiWorld Economic Journal, the Editorial Board of the Journal of Information Policy, and the Editorial Board of Tijdschrift voor Toezicht.
