Curriculum vitae

Pedro Memelsdorff studied early music performance at the Schola Cantorum in Basel and the Amsterdam Conservatory. He obtained his Ph.D. under the supervision of Karl Kügle at Utrecht University (2010, cum laude). In 1987 he founded – and ever since directs – the renowned ensemble Mala Punica, specialized in late medieval polyphony. As a musicologist, Memelsdorff has published extensively on music in Italy during the Trecento and Quattrocento. He was a Fellow of Villa I Tatti, the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence, in 2003-04, and in spring 2010 served as Ernest Bloch Lecturer at UC Berkeley. Since 2006, he directs the Early Music Seminars at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice, Italy. He also is in charge of the MA in Early Music Performance at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona.
