Dr. Pauline Krijgsheld is an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Life Sciences, working at both Utrecht University and the Utrecht Medical Centre. She obtained her PhD in microbiology and, after two postdoctoral research projects in mycelium design, transitioned into a teaching role. She currently lectures in several Bachelor courses and is the Admission officer of the Biomedical Sciences programmes and member of the Board of Admissions.
Dr. Krijgsheld served as the course coordinator for the Life Sciences Academy for several years and now holds the position of Programme Coordinator for the Bio Inspired Innovation (BII) Master’s programme. In addition to her teaching and administrative roles, she is the initiator of Lili’s Proto Lab, a makerspace at Utrecht University dedicated to fostering innovation and hands-on learning.
Her research interests include molecular microbiology and the development of fungal-based biocomposite materials and circularity with applications ranging from sustainable product design to potential habitat structures for extraterrestrial environments.
