Klaas van Egmond (1946) is currently emeritus Faculty Professor Geosciences at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. He started his career with research on environmental pollution. Since 1988 he was Director Environment at the National Health & Environment RIVM-institute and since 2004 Director of the National Environmental Assessment Agency; in these functions he was responsible for many studies on all aspects of environment and sustainability and advisor to the Dutch Cabinet of Ministers and members of parliament.
More recently Klaas van Egmond has undertaken studies into the social, cultural, ethical and economic-financial aspects of the sustainability problem, the results are published in peer reviewed journals of different disciplines and in the Palgrave Macmillan book ‘Sustainable Civilization’;
