Marthe Egberts is a postdoctoral researcher and clinician at het Ingeborg Douwes Centrum, a centre for psycho-oncology. She is affiliated with the department of Clinical Psychology as a guest researcher. Her research primarily focuses on the impact of stressful events (such as accidental injuries or illness) on the family. Currently she is studying the use of early psychosocial screening in families in which a parent is diagnosed with cancer.

Previously, Marthe conducted research within the project 'Family and cancer' (financially supported by Pink Ribbon/KWF), supervised by prof. dr. Paul Boelen. This project is focused on family adjustment when a parent is diagnosed with cancer. The aim of the project is to examine the psychological consequences for parents and children, and the individual- and family factors associated with these consequences.

In March 2019, Marthe obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology. Her PhD-project focused on the psychological impact of pediatric burn injuries on children and their parents. This research project was conducted at the Association of Dutch Burn Centres and supervised by dr. Nancy van Loey, prof. dr. Rinie Geenen, prof. dr. Peter van der Heijden en prof. dr. Rens van de Schoot.
