Dr. Moret’s interests lie in the organometallic chemistry of base metals (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu), targeting the development of innovative approaches towards catalytic systems using these cheap, nontoxic metals to promote (in)organic transformations of environmental and/or industrial significance such as CO2 reduction, olefin metathesis, and group transfer reactions. Using tailored ligands that control key properties of the metal center such as its coordination number, redox potential, and spin state, synthetic access to key intermediates in catalytic cyles is sought. An in-depth study of the properties and reactivity of these compounds is expected to allow for rational design and improvement of catalysts. Novel strategies towards metal-ligand cooperation in the activation of challenging substrates are also being explored.
