I investigate the early history of statistical visualisation in the Netherlands, focusing on the 19th century. Who introduced the so-called "Graphical Method" and in which fields did it catch on? How did graphical representations change data analysis and presentation practices? I hope to find out how visual-statistical literacy spread through Dutch society and working with graphics became commonplace by 1900.
Next to my research, I teach the course History of Mathematics for Beta4all and 'Mathematics for Poets, Thinkers and Doers' for Humanities students. I am also involved in faculty-wide integrity teaching.
I am an editor for the History of Science blog Shells & Pebbles.
