Marit van den Berg is a postdoctoral researcher and board-certified small animal internal medicine specialist at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. She graduated cum laude from Utrecht University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in February 2016. She followed a small animal rotating internship and residency in internal medicine at Ghent University from 2016 to 2020. After finishing her residency, she became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine-Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA) in April 2021. In May 2021, she started her PhD at the Division of Small Animal Internal Medicine (Department Clinical Sciences), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, focusing on canine pheochromocytomas, under supervision of Dr. S. Galac and Prof. Dr. H.S. Kooistra. She successfully obtained her PhD in 2025. Currently, she works as a postdoctoral researcher while combining research with clinical practice, with a particular focus on small animal endocrinology.
The ‘European Board of Veterinary Specialisation’ (EBVS®) is responsible for the training, examination, and accreditation of veterinary specialists in Europe. An EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist has completed a three-year postgraduate program followed by an examination after studying Veterinary Medicine. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine employs EBVS specialists from various fields. Additionally, the faculty is a recognized training institute for various specializations.
