I am currently a PhD candidate at the department of Information and Computing Sciences of Utrecht University. As part of the human-centered computing group, placed in the Interaction division, I work on human-centered AI in Education. My research focuses on ways to balance automation with cognitive engagement of students to increase learning effects and motivation. To investigate this, I aim to take an interdisciplinary approach, using learning theories and human-computer-interaction design strategies.
During my Bachelor's and Master's degree in Computing Science from Radboud University I focused on how Data Science can be used for the benefit of society. Through the specialization Science in Society, I combined my technical background with philosophical perspectives, bridging the gap between disciplines required to solve big societal issues. This shaped my broad interest into topics such as Misinformation, Dark Patterns, Diversity, or Sustainability. Hoping to empower other computing scientists to apply their skills to societal issues, I was part of the co-design of the course “Sustainability & IT” at Radboud University. This course takes a broad perspective on sustainability, meaning any actions conscious of society's welfare. By teaching student to think critically and reflect on system interactions, students gained actionable insights of their impact.
