Miranda Boettcher is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Environmental Governance Section of the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University. She has a background in Global Environmental Politics and Linguistics. Her research maps the discursive construction and legitimization of governance in emerging technology fields, with a current focus on marine-based carbon dioxide removal technologies.

Miranda is also a Resesarch Associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin, Germany. Additionally, Miranda co-coordinates the Carbon Removal Working Group of the ESG Taskforce on Climate Governance, and is a member of the UN GESAMP Working Group 41 on Ocean Interventions for Climate Mitigation. She is currently an Earth System Governance Research Fellow. She was an Oxford Martin Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford's Institute for Science, Innovation and Society in 2018, a Visiting Researcher at the Australian-German Climate and Energy College at the University of Melbourne in 2019, and a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2022.

She has previously worked as a Research Associate at the Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS) (formerly known as the IASS-Potsdam), Research Analyst for Foresight Intelligence in Berlin, Germany, an Investigator at the Mintz Group in San Francisco, USA, and a Research Assistant at the University of Heidelberg's Dpeartment of International Relations in Heidelberg, Germany.
