I am Marthy van de Laar (she/her), internal communication advisor at the Communication and Marketing Department of the Faculty of Geosciences.

A communicatively powerful organisation

The UU strategy in which open mind, open attitude and open science are starting points and goals calls for developing a communicatively powerful organisation and communicatively skilled employees. Internal communication contributes to this. 

What can you contact me for? 

Do you have a question about internal communication? Are you working on a project that will change something essential for employees? Are you struggling with an issue that directly affects employees, or do you wonder how best to reach (a group of) employees? If so, you have come to the right person. My focus is on connecting people, putting 'big issues' on the map by making them vivid and manageable, but also making the organisation and policies clearer and more transparent.

My work includes such things as:

  • Communication advice (from useful tips to major projects)
  • Drawing up a communication approach
  • Advising on communication tools and their application
  • Text editing
  • Thinking along and advising on change issues
  • Intranet (final) editing and improvements
  • Writing and editing news for employees and drafting the faculty newsletter
  • Crisis communication if necessary

The Communication and Marketing Department of the Faculty of Geosciences contributes to the goal of working towards a diverse and inclusive environment where all staff and students are challenged in their professional development.
