Profile

Liesbeth Groot Nibbelink is Lecturer and Researcher in Theatre Studies at the Media and Culture Studies department of Utrecht University. She is coordinator of the MA Contemporary Theatre, Dance and Dramaturgy, and teaches as well in the BA Media and Culture Studies and the RMA Media, Art and Performance. Previously she worked as a dramaturge, assistant-director and dramaturgy teacher. Her research interests include dramaturgy, scenography and performative research formats. In her PhD Thesis, entitled Nomadic Theatre: Staging Movement and Mobility in Contemporary Performance (2015), she introduces the concept of ‘nomadic theatre’ and demonstrates how this concept generates a set of mobile tools and strategies to activate an interdisciplinary framework for analyzing dynamic performer/spectator relationships and interfaces in ambulatory performances and performative installations. Liesbeth is co-founder of the Dutch Platform-Scenography, an open source platforms for scenographers and dramaturgs, and has published in Contemporary Theatre Review, Performance Research and in Mapping Intermediality in Theatre and Performance (ed. [urban interfaces]
13.05.2014 to
General project description

[urban interfaces] is a platform for a critical investigation of urban interfaces for creative and participatory engagement at the crossing of academic research and cultural practices. Focusing on mobile and situated media, arts, and performances, the platform brings together and initiates critical reflections on, and actual interventions in, these socio-spatial activities and their shaping and staging of urban culture.

[urban interfaces] is an initiative of the interdisciplinary Department for Media and Culture Studies (MCW) at Utrecht University, and collaborates with an expanding (international) network of academic and cultural partners.
