Lan Nguyen is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University School of Law, Department International and European Law. She currently teaches courses in public international Law, law of the sea and dispute settlement.

Lan holds a B.A in International Relations (summa cum laude) from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, and an LL.M in International Law (First Class Honours) from the University of Cambridge, for which she was awarded the Clive Parry (Overseas) Prize for International Law. She obtained her PhD also from the University of Cambridge. 

Before joining Utrecht University, Lan worked at theDiplomatic Academy of Vietnam and served as an intern at the Legal Office of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

Lan’s research interests lie in public international law, law of the sea, settlement of international disputes and the management and resolution of maritime disputes in Asia. She is a member of the Utrecht Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law (UCWOSL), and an Assosciate Researcher of the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS). 

Lan is the author of the monograph 'The Development of the UNCLOS by Dispute Settlement Bodies' (CUP 2023), and has published widely on issues relating to law of the sea and dispute settlement.
