Kirsten Buist is a developmental psychologist, who graduated from Leiden University. She received her PhD from Utrecht University in 2002, based on a longitudinal study concerning the development of family relationships during adolescence and their associations with internalizing and externalizing problem behavior.
Besides teaching, Kirsten Buist conducts research on the family system, sibling relationships and problem behavior, often in collaboration with colleagues at universities within and outside the Netherlands.
Since April 2020, Kirsten Buist coordinates the Dutch data collection of the #StayHome study. This international study, started by Eötvös Loránd University Budapest, focused on the way adolescents aged 11 to 18 years and their parents dealt with corona measures.
