Kees is a PhD candidate at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University. He investigates how justice is considered in the decision-making of innovation projects that develop local energy systems. He also looks at the broader energy transition and explores strategies that governments can use to help low-income households participate in this transition.

Kees is involved in the research project Local Inclusive Future Energy (LIFE) City Platform. In this research project, Kees collaborates with companies, governments and civil society organizations to develop a local, smart and fair energy system in Amsterdam Southeast.
