Katrine Smiet joined the Graduate Gender Programme as a lecturer in 2016. In her recently completed PhD research Traveling Truths: Sojourner Truth, Intersectionality and Feminist Scholarship she examined academic reception histories of the story of Sojourner Truth, the 19th century abolitionist and feminist activist known for the speech ‘Ain’t I Woman’. By looking at how this iconic story has been taken up in different times, places and political contexts, the research brings into focus the emergence and development of debates on intersectionality within feminist scholarship.

Katrine’s research interests include feminist philosophy, history of feminist ideas, intersectionality and critical race theory.
