Judith van de Wetering is a PhD candidate in developmental psychology. She is interested in how adolescents are affected by and can contribute to societal issues, including climate change. In the GREENTEENS project, she studies how environmentalism is connected to how adolescents view themselves and to what adolescents care for in their daily lives. In a series of studies, she tests how we can communicate about climate change in such a way that adolescents become motivated to act.

Judith completed her research master ‘Development and Socialisation in Childhood and Adolescence’ at Utrecht University (cum laude, 2020). For her master thesis, she evaluated the effectiveness of environmental education programs for youth across the world (see here). This project sparked her interest in what motivates (or demotivates) adolescents to engage in sustainable behavior.
