Since my retirement I mainly work on fossiels from the Triassic. Important here is material; from the MiddleTriassic (Anisian) and Late Triassic (Rhaetian) of Winterswijk. In addition I work on Tertiary mammals, with an emphasis on insectivores, cetaceans and the fauna of the Pleistocene mammoth steppe ecosystem that is being retrieved from the North Sea.

Science communication keeps me busy too. This includes writing a weekly column on animals in the daily newspaper Trouw, the writing of various essays, giving spoken radio columns and public lectures, and writing non-fiction books on biology, paleontology, evolution and fossils.
