Dr. Jasper Sluijs

Dr. Jasper Sluijs is assistant professor in competition law and regulation at the Utrecht University School of Law.

 

His research focuses on state-owned enterprises and the role of state ownership in sustainability challenges. How can state ownership contribute to emission reduction and energy transition, without distorting markets or negatively affecting the Rule of Law? He co-directs the research cluster Public Interest Ecosystems, and participates in the IOS platform Markets and Corporations in Open Societies. His research is empirically and interdisciplinary oriented, and he likes to collaborate with economists and governance scholars. 

 

Dr. Sluijs co-directs the LLM Law & Economics, in which he teaches EU competition law courses. He is also involved in legal design teaching, and design thinking for lawyers. His projects in educational innovation have been awarded by multiple grants from the Utrecht Incentive Fund.  

 

Before returning to academia in 2018, dr. Sluijs worked in private practice for five years, advising clients in matters of general EU (competition) law, sector-specific regulation and compliance in numerous markets, such as health care, railways, telecoms and tech.

 

Dr. Sluijs obtained his PhD with first class honors at Tilburg Law School, and previously was a Fulbright scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania. In 2023 he was a visiting scholar at the Faculty of Law of the National University Singapore.
