Re-imagining anticipatory climate governance in the world's vulnerable regions (RE-IMAGINE) 02.10.2017 to 01.10.2020
General project description

Re-imagining anticipatory climate governance in the world's vulnerable regions (RE-IMAGINE) is a joint effort between Utrecht University, Wageningen University & Research, the University of Oxford and the CGIAR Programme on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Scenarios Project, and has been made possible by the BNP Paribas Foundation’s ‘Climate Action Call’.

The project brings together two research communities: scientists who seek to help policy makers think about future climate scenarios on the one hand, and social scientists whose job it is to critically investigate climate politics and policy on the other. So far these communities haven’t really been connected, and they have a lot to learn from each other. We believe that their combined insights can be used to make thinking about climate futures a lot more inclusive, fair and effective. The project builds on the CGIAR Scenarios Project under the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Programme. It will be working with regional governmental organisations in four global regions: Central America, West Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia to look at the benefits and challenges of current ways of anticipating and planning for climate change so that they can be better policy interventions, particularly in the regions and to the people most vulnerable to climate change.

IRIS - Integrated and Replicable solutions for co-creation in Sustainable cities 01.10.2017 to 30.09.2022
General project description

Urban environments are accelerating their transformation towards cleaner, friendlier places able to respect and use resources more efficiently. Across Europe, cities are blending social innovation, engineering and ICT excellence and smart technologies to help reach these goals. IRIS is at the forefront of this change and announce itself as the newest addition to the European Commission Smart Cities and Communities (SCC) lighthouse projects. The project has been developed around three lighthouse cities - Utrecht (The Netherlands, coordinator), Nice (France), and Gothenburg (Sweden) - who will work as collaborators and test-beds for follower cities Vaasa (Finland), Alexandroupolis (Greece), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain) and Focsani (Romania). Each city will draw upon a mix of universities and research organisations, local authorities, innovation agencies and private expertise to accelerate entire communities to adopt ambitious energy, mobility and ICT initiatives.
