Jooske IJzer graduated in 1995 as a veterinarian at Utrecht University. After a few years in small animal and mixed animal practice, she started the residency in veterinary pathology at UU, and succesfully completed it in 2002. She finished her PhD at Utrecht University, the Netherlands, titled "Liver fibrosis and regeneration in dogs and cats: an immunohistochemical approach" in 2008. Afterwards, her research output was related to her diagnostic work as zoo- and wildlife veterinary pathologist at Utrecht University.
Jooske achieved her basis teaching qualification (BTQ) in 2014, the senior qualification (STQ) in 2021 and completed the Course on Educational Leadership in Sep. 2024. She chaired de committee Optimalisation Bachelor curriculum (2020-2021), as well as the subsequent implementation committee bachelor curriculum 2022 (2021 - april 2023). She was member of the bachelor examination committee (2021-Nov. 2022), and the quality assessment committee. From 2019 till April 2023, Jooske coordinated pathology education in bachelor and master of veterinary medicine. Starting May 2023, she is director Undergraduate School of Veterinary Medicine, UU.
