Joanna Wall is a PhD candidate at Utrecht University and the Meertens Institute. She is currently in the final stages of writing up her PhD dissertation, which focuses on morphosyntactic and semantic variation in the verbal domain, and on interactions between the nominal and verbal domains. Her broader research interests include: syntactic macro- and micro-variation, especially in West Germanic, the syntax-semantics and syntax-morphology interfaces, and language change. 

 

Prior to her PhD studies, Joanna obtained a BA (Hons) in French and German from Oxford University, a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages from UCL and an RMA in Linguistics from Utrecht University. She also previously worked as a secondary school teacher in French and German in the UK as part of the Teach First programme. In addition to her research, Joanna has taught throughout her PhD, on courses both at Utrecht University and Leiden University.
