Jana Finke is a PhD candidate at the department of Human Geography & Spatial Planning since May 2020. Her research is on welcoming spaces in shrinking areas in the Netherlands, that have the potential to connect people from diverse backgrounds and to revitalize those areas. Her project is part of the European project Welcoming Spaces (Horizon2020).

She holds a Master's on International Migration and Social Cohesion (Joint European Masters by the University of Amsterdam, University College Dublin, and University of Deusto) and a Bachelor in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Amsterdam University College. Before starting her PhD, Jana was a junior lecturer at the University of Amsterdam, teaching and desigining a variety of courses in the Bachelor program in political science and in the minor on gender and sexuality studies.
